Website Content -- How is it stored?

There are a number of available methods for organizing the storage of the website content. Some sites are small enough that a simple directory structure can be utilized to store the files. However, once a website get large enough, it becomes advantageous to utilize a database which can be periodically backed-up simply and quickly.

The content for the website needs to be created and placed onto the website. By utilizing a data-driven website model, the data can be categorized and easily reused in multiple areas of the same website. For example, a site may have a 'Current Events' section with a headline 'Giveaway Contest' which links to a description of the weekly giveaway contest. There may also be a 'Customer Appreciation' section which also links to the same weekly giveaway contest. And there may also be a 'Past Winners' section which lists past winners and presents a link to the same weekly giveaway contest.
