A website can only be as successful as the quality of the content presented at that website. The more up-to-date the content is, the more likely a visitor is going to link to (or re-visit) the website.

The content for the website needs to be initially created and this activity can become a sizable effort in itself. It's also extremely important that the website content be updated on a regular basis. The world changes quickly, and the website needs to track those changes. Generating content, especially relevant content, takes time and energy. With the help of a well thought-out website structure, the updating process can be made as simple as possible, but new content still needs to be generated.

In an interactive environment, some functionality such as blogs,forums, guest books and product reviews can be used to allow the website visitors to be the actual generators of the new site content.

Remember that there are two parts to the generation of the content for a new website; the initial content and the periodic content updates. The first part, the initial content, will normally come from the website own areas they have the necessary knowledge available to them. If the website developer generates the initial content, the customer should plan to be involved in a  content review process prior to website deployment. The second part of content generation, the periodic content updates, should be anticipated and well understood with respect to who generates them and how they are installed onto your website in a timely manner.
